How does the Mobile Tornado product set save businesses money?
By driving cost reductions through device consolidation and reduced cellular charges, the technology can offer cost savings to a broad range of businesses. Financial savings may also be achieved through improved workforce efficiency.
How does the Mobile Tornado product set improve workforce efficiency?
By offering management the ability to communicate effectively with a large group of users, instantly and on a one-push basis, efficiencies can be gained through standard business activities such as job distribution and management, problem handling and resource allocation. Coupled with existing workforce management applications, this has achieved proven productivity improvements.
How is Push To Talk over Cellular (PoC) different to traditional alternatives?
Push To Talk over Cellular utilises the global mobile phone networks for communication, meaning range is effectively limitless, conversation is typically more secure, and no additional infrastructure is required to get up and running. Traditional offerings such as Private Mobile Radio (PMR) are limited in range to a small geographic area, or alternatively require a trunked infrastructure which can prove extremely expensive to install and maintain. It is also normally very easy for eavesdroppers to listen in to conversations simply by tuning to the correct frequency.
What differentiates the Mobile Tornado technologies from their competitors?
The IPRS™ platform differs from alternative offerings in a variety of ways. Importantly, some competitor Push To Talk offerings actually provide a 'store and forward' service rather than a 'real-time streaming' service. This means that your message is not sent to the recipient until you have finished speaking, drastically reducing conversational efficiency and speed of communication. The Mobile Tornado product set also incorporates the Push To Locate, Push To Alert, and Push To Instant Message features which many of our competitors are unable to rival.
How many users can the IPRS Platform support?
Subject to suitable hardware specification, an IPRS Platform can scale up to hundreds of thousands of users. Additional configurations exist to increase the capacity beyond this.
How many users can communicate in a single call?
Typically a single group is limited to 50 users — however this is an environmental restriction rather than a platform capacity limitation. Typically it is not suitable to have more than this number of users in a single group due to the inherent difficulty involved in so many people trying to reply at the same time. Announcement groups may be suitable for higher volumes of users.
What technologies does the IPRS Platform run on?
The IPRS platform is designed to run on best of breed hardware and software, including Sun Solaris server platforms, Oracle database, and Veritas Clustering where required. For exact specifications according to capacity requirements, please contact our sales team.
How much data does the IPRS Client use?
While talking, an audio stream is sent at a rate of approximately 1KBps; while dormant, only the necessary minimum of data is transferred to keep the client available. Additional data is sent while a device is in Alert state, and for each Location poll. Typically we advise average data usage of 25MB per user per month, subject to call volumes.
Which devices does the IPRS Client run on?
Although it is not possible to provide an exact list of devices, IPRS clients have been developed to run on Nokia Series 60, Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.1 and 6.5, Android 2.1+, and Windows PCs. The IPRS platform can also interoperate with Nokia Series 40 devices.
Which devices does the IPRS Software Development Kit run on?
Currently the Software Development Kit is supported on Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.1, 6.5, and Windows PC.
Which networks does the service run on?
Subject to suitable network or device configuration, it is possible to run the service over any IP based network including GPRS, EDGE, 3G/UMTS, and WiFi. Connectivity must be available to an IPRS platform either via Internet, APN/VPN, or private networking and we typically recommend that, where possible, connection timeout values are increased to minimise data usage and maximise battery life.
What regions is the service available in?
Mobile Tornado offers the hosted service to many regions worldwide from one of our locations in the US, UK, Spain, or Israel. We also have a strong partner network with platforms in many other territories who offer country or region specific services; alternatively an IPRS platform can be specified and delivered according to your needs. |
